NLRB Regional Director Orders Election Among Interns, Residents at Bronx Hospital

Interns and residents at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, N.Y., are employees, not students, under National Labor Relations Board precedent and are entitled to coverage under the National Labor Relations Act, a National Labor Relations Board regional director ruled May 22.

Doctors Medical Center Caregivers Vote For NUHW Representation in First Election

Caregivers at Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo, Calif., voted 158-24, in the first election for union representation by the National Union of Healthcare Workers, to choose to join the newly created union and shift away from representation by the Service Employees International Union, NUHW announced May 21. California Approves Airborne Diseases Rule; Union Urges Federal OSHA to Follow Suit

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board voted unanimously May 21 to approve its first-in-the-nation workplace standards for aerosol transmissible disease and for zoonotic diseases, which can be transmitted from animals to humans. Publication date May 22, 2009
